The Organisation of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Events
Delivered by a member of the Weymouth and Portland 2012 Operations Team this presentation will cover the latest information on the plans for delivery of the sailing events. It will include:
- Arrangements being made to view the sailing and other Olympic events at Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy, Nothe Gardens and the Live Site on the beach
- Expected visitor numbers and origins and arrangements being made for accommodation, parking and transport
- Benefits for the area of hosting the Sailing events – what has happened already and what is planned
- Local concerns and how these are being addressed
The Sailing Competition
Prepared by staff from the Royal Yachting Association this presentation will help you to understand sailing better so you can pass it on to your guests. The presentation will cover:
- Why Weymouth Bay was chosen as the venue
- Explanation of what happens during a sailing race and how the sailors win medals
- Introduction to the 10 different sailing events featuring dinghies, keelboats and windsurfers
- How guests can keep up to date with the sailing competition
- Who are the British Olympic hopefuls
Welcoming Visitors
Presented by David Dann and/or Gill Heighington, both well respected and experienced Welcome to Excellence trainers this section will help you prepare for new visitors with different needs during the 2012 Games. Presented in an interactive format it will focus on:
- Where will visitors come from and what will they expect
- Preparing for visitors from overseas
- Dealing with guests with special needs
- The importance of excellent customer service for repeat business and referrals
- Making small changes that can make a huge difference
- Top Tips to take home
The Cultural Olympiad
Presented by Lisa Worthington of Tandem Marketing this will be a great opportunity to find out about all the other activities taking place in Weymouth, Portland and beyond during summer 2012. Will include:
- Maritime Mix – London 2012 Cultural Olympiad by the Sea – running from 30 May to 9 September this will include both one off and continuous events encompassing world class outdoor theatre, visual arts, multi-media arts, participative music and dance across Dorset
- Weymouth Bayside Festival – situated immediately adjacent to Weymouth Pavillion the festival will be a celebration of music and entertainment along with a broad range of exhibitors, retailers and food concessions.
